Brno Theater World Festival is an international theater show that makes “All Brno a stage” one week a year. One of the largest theater festivals in the Czech Republic, the event regularly features the best contemporary theatre, modern children’s theatre, dance performances from around the world, as well as workshops, lectures, debates and much more . This year, 50 theatrical ensembles from all over the world will come to Brno, and the festival has also prepared a program for audiences who do not speak Czech – selected performances will be subtitled in English. Foreign tourists and expats in Brno can expect Comedy by Václav Havel “The increased difficulty of concentration” performed by the Brno National Theater (Reduta Theater), the chamber musical “Next to Normal” at the Municipal Theater in Brno, or The Seneca classic “The Mad Hercules”, prepared by students of the Faculty of Theater JAMU (Studio Marta). The Goose on a String Theater (Divadlo Husa na provázku) will open again”The Khazar Dictionary »and there is also something for children: for those who know how to read the subtitles, the Radost Theater has prepared a very original adaptation of the story of Prince Hamlet, a funeral musical inspired by the poetics of nomadic market puppeteers , “Hamlet on the road”.
In addition to the English-speaking performances, the festival also includes several productions that will take place without lyrics, or with such a small amount of text that everyone will be able to understand them. One of these performances is the dance production”Asylum”, by the kibbutz’s famous contemporary dance company, one of the highlights of this year’s festival. From France, Les Antliaclastes puppet theater will bring two magical performances – “Ambergris” and “The Waltz of the Hommlettes”. In the show”Miracle(s) of Creation », the National Magic Lantern Theater in Prague will show children what can be created with a roll of paper. And Franz Kafka in grotesque dance will also be on the program of this year’s festival, as the dance group Dekkadancers will perform their “Transformation”a very entertaining performance on an otherwise very serious subject.
The new circus ensemble Cirk La Putyka is no newcomer to the World Theater Festival. This year they will bring to Brno the premiere of “Runners”, a show combining acrobatics, singing, live music and running. On the other hand, the contemporary physical theater ensemble Burki&com comes to the festival for the first time, with a multimedia dance performance “The Island!”an environmental piece.
For children from 4 to 12 years old, there is “Boxing up”, a production of movements linking dance, elements of improvisation and technology, by the PONEC Theater in Prague.
