In the latest order issued by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Thursday, no relaxation regarding the opening of gymnasiums was mentioned.
The Delhi Gym Association was not happy with the latest guidelines issued by the DDMA.
In its order, DDMA decided to leave gymnasiums closed, while all other activities that were closed in the yellow zone, including theaters and banquets, were allowed to reopen. Separately, DDMA also announced the lifting of even-odd store opening protocol and weekend curfew from January 29.
“We criticize the decision taken by DDMA which affects the livelihoods of around 1,000,000 people. This government decision shows that health is never the priority as everything else in Delhi is open and only gymnasiums have been closed. requested to remain closed. We strongly condemn this decision which will make Delhi unfit and prone to disease. We have no choice but to protest against this decision which is preventing the gym industry from earning a living,” noted the Delhi Gym Association.
Chirag Sethi, vice president of the Delhi Gym Association, said the government’s decision to only close gyms but open all other activities is like a death warrant for gym owners.
“If DDMA doesn’t want people to be healthy, let us know and we’ll open liquor stores too. It’s really unfair to the fitness industry. We are exploring legal options to challenge this decision in court. In addition, we will organize a big demonstration against this decision. Now we have no choice but to hit the road and protest to make our voices heard,” Sethi added.
