Surrey-based non-profit raising funds for the Canadian Mental Health Association – Surrey Now-Leader

An ’80s charity event is coming to Cloverdale.
Unfortunately, the event at the Museum of Surrey is already sold out, but organizers are hoping to raise awareness for their cause in a bid to raise even more funds.
Kelley Chalmers, director of special events for the new nonprofit Making Tomorrow Better (MTB), said she plans to hold a fundraising event every year.
“This will be our inaugural event and it’s going to be amazing,” Chalmers said in an email to Cloverdale Journalist. “The community has really come together and we’re really excited.”
The Surrey-based nonprofit has chosen the Canadian Mental Health Association, British Columbia Division, as the first charity to benefit from its fundraising efforts.
“Throughout the pandemic, our bubble of six families and friends and I realized that each of our families had members who were desperately struggling with mental health issues,” Chalmers said in a press release on the website. event and mountain biking. “Some are unfortunately very serious and life changing.”
Chalmers said his volunteer-based charity has one goal: to help the community.
“We want to create awareness of mental health issues and, through awareness, acceptance in our families and yours as well.”
Chalmer said MTB is very grateful to the 150 companies who supported their fundraiser with donations of gift cards, prizes and silent auction items.
Although the ’80s dance party and silent auction at the museum are sold out, Chalmers said anyone wishing to donate can visit canadahelps.org.
“All proceeds will go to the Mental Health Association of BC.”
As of May 30, donations exceeded $6,000 on a goal of $5,000. The fundraising page on canadahelps.org will remain open until June 12.
“Your support is appreciated.”
