Too big of a request. The most talked about scene in Pam and Tommy includes a discussion between Sebastian Stan as Tom Lee and his talking penis, voiced by Jason Mantzoukas – but Chris Evans was briefly considered for the gig.

The Me Tonya star, 39, revealed that the Hulu limited series did not cast the Brooklyn nine-nine actor, 49, when they were shooting the scene, but the filmmakers knew they wanted to find a recognizable voice for the genitals.

“Actually, he wasn’t there that day. We didn’t know who we were going to have at that point,” Stan explained in an interview with Awards Daily, published on Sunday, June 19. “Guys, I think, called me up at one point and said, do you think? Do you think Chris Evans would do that with you?’ »

Evans, 41, played Steve Rogers opposite Stan’s Bucky Barnes in Marvel Studios Captain America trilogy and the last two avengers movies. As they fought Nazis and aliens together for more than a decade, Pam and Tommy would definitely be a departure from the action movies. However, the Gossip Girl alum was unwilling to ask for a favor.

“I was like, ‘I’m not calling her, okay? I can’t ask her to do this,'” Stan explained with a laugh.

The cast and crew weren’t sure if the risque content would work. “We didn’t even know if this scene was going to succeed, period. But again, word for word, line for line, that’s what was written,” the Romania native said.

“It’s very much a confessional scene,” Stan noted. “It’s really kind of [like] when you say to a friend of yours, ‘My God, I’m developing feelings for this person and I’m a little scared.’ So it’s a vulnerable scene like that. But then we thought we won’t know until we get the whole episode if it’s too much, if it makes sense, if it’s not.

Although he must have discussed the talking manhood scene at length since the show’s release earlier this year, the 335 star is glad she made the final cut.

“Fortunately, they decided to keep it,” Stan concluded. “I was happy with that and obviously because it’s really a tribute to the book that [Lee] wrote, tommylandwhere his penis is a character.

Although he didn’t have Mantzoukas to voice the limb during filming, Stan was able to see the prosthetic tree move thanks to the puppeteers, creator of special makeup effects. Jason Collins Told Thrillist in February.

“There’s something to be said for having a real puppet on stage that someone is carrying, because you have two puppeteers actually playing who have learned the lines from a penis point of view and interact with Stan , who is capable of riffing at the time,” Collins explained. “Any extra tools you can give an actor to play—no pun intended—are an asset to what their performance brings.”

All episodes of Pam and Tommy are now available on Hulu.
