Police Services Board contracts with Waterloo Regional Police Senior Officers’ Association

Region of Waterloo, Ontario – The Waterloo Region Police Services Board has entered into an agreement with the Waterloo Regional Police Senior officers Association (SOA) on a five (5) year contract that extends until the end of 2024.

Today at a board meeting, the Police Services Board voted to approve the Collective agreement this wlike ratified through SOA Members November 10, 2021. Tthe current collective agreement expired on December 31, 2019.

Highlights of the agreement include:

  • The agreement is for five years, expiring on December 31, 2024;

  • The average annual increase is 2.14% per year over the term of the contract;

  • January 1, 2020 – 2.5 percent

  • January 1, 2021 – 2.1%

  • January 1, 2022 – 2.1 percent

  • January 1, 2023 – 2.0 percent

  • January 1, 2024 – 2.0 percent

  • Adjustments to the benefits of members who support and improve the well-being of members; and

  • The termination of pension benefits for life for all new recruits and the exercise of acquired rights for members.

“We are pleased to have reached a negotiated settlement which recognizes the dedication and professional service provided by members of the Senior Officers’ Association.,” noted Karen Redman, President of the Police Services Board. “The five-year agreement focuses on improving member well-being and is consistent with other police agreements that have been made across Ontario. I would like to thank the members of the Council and the Association for their direction and working together to advance a successful deal, one that will position the Service well as it moves forward on its commitment to modernize policing in the Waterloo region.“

The Waterloo Regional Police Services Board is a civilian oversight body that governs the Waterloo Regional Police Service. Under the provisions of the Ontario Police Services Act, the Commission is responsible for the providing adequate and effective policing services to the residents of the Region of Waterloo.
