Riders from Southbury-based Cavalier Farm had quite the display at the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) National Finals in Harrisburg, Penn., April 28-30. Puma Marx, a sophomore from Newtown High School, and Devon LeMoine (Roxbury) competed in this season-ending event and posted some impressive results.
Marx rode in the top 18 nationwide in his USHJA Junior Varsity Beginner Equitation walk trot gallop class. LeMoine placed 11th in the nation in the highly competitive category of the Varsity Open Championship.
The event drew nearly 800 of the nation’s top middle and high school equestrian athletes from across the United States.
Also of note, Sierra Marx of Cavalier Farm placed fifth out of more than 400 riders in the equestrian knowledge test at national championships.
It wraps up a great season for the Cavalier Farm IEA middle and high school teams, which include many Newtown riders ages 9-17. They are coached by Cheryl LeMoine and Kristen Zawatski. The next season will start in September 2022.
