Jay Thompson unanimously selected for ACCA leadership position
Autauga County Commission Chairman Jay Thompson was elected 2022-2023 President of the Alabama Association of County Commissions (ACCA), the statewide association representing 67 county governments of Alabama. Thompson was elected to the position at ACCA 94e Annual congress held from August 23 to 25.
“ACCA has been the leading unified voice on behalf of Alabama’s 67 counties for nearly a century,” Thompson said. “When county leaders across the state engage with this association and collaborate with its members and partners, we are strongest. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the Alabama County family in as president, and I look forward to continuing to have a positive impact for Alabamians statewide alongside those elected with me.
Prior to being unanimously elected President of the ACCA, Thompson served as ACCA’s President-elect and Vice-President for consecutive terms. Thompson was also an active member of the ACCA Board of Directors and the ACCA Legislative Committee. Additionally, Thompson completed ACCA’s premier leadership program for second-term commissioners – PLAN, which stands for Passion, Leadership, Accountability and Networking.
ACCA Chief Executive Officer Sonny Brasfield expressed his confidence in Thompson’s ability to serve Association members: “President Thompson is an enthusiastic and capable leader who is dedicated to serving the Association and our members. He understands the intricacies of urban and rural county government in Alabama, and I am confident that his spirit as an advocate for county government will serve the Association and our state remarkably well. We look forward to a successful year with President Thompson at the helm.
In addition to his ten years of service with the county commission, Thompson worked for 20 years in residential construction and development before being appointed as the new construction coordinator for the Autauga County School Board. Thompson also remains a dedicated father and enjoys coaching youth sports and participating in his children’s activities.
