Art exhibition, family event in New Canaan to promote girls’ confidence
The Carriage Barn Arts Center will open an exhibit on May 27, “She Is Rising,” a celebration of women of different ages, backgrounds and ethnicities – some captured in life and others imagined – who represent female power.

LiveGirl, co-sponsor of the show, will also host a “Celebration Event” outside the Horse-drawn Barn on Friday June 4th. ‘Family Fun Friday’ is a ‘celebration of female power and the arts’ featuring carnival games, an art scavenger hunt, cocktails, Flaco’s Taco Truck, artist / activist by Darien TL Duryea’ performing a chef-d ‘work’, live music by Melissa Wasserman.
Family Fun Friday runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on June 4. here on the LiveGirl website. The first 50 entries will participate in a draw to win an Ashley Longshore gift bag.
The fourth annual exhibition, a partnership between LiveGirl and the arts center, features works by Duryea, pop artist phenomenon Ashley Longshore and contemporary artist Michele Voight. The exhibition will run until June 5.
LiveGirl Founder and CEO Sheri West said the exhibition and event “gives a platform to female artists and gives voice to the unstoppable young women’s movement who are standing up for social change today.” She said this benefit will make LiveGirl’s free leadership development and mentoring programs for Grade 5 girls in college possible.
“The selected pieces reflect many interpretations of female power and celebrate LiveGirl’s mission to develop confident and inclusive leaders,” said Hilary Wittman, executive director of the Carriage Barn Arts Center.
Ashley Prymas, Founder of Plucky, co-hosted the exhibit, said: “These talented artists harness the idea of female power through a variety of media – from pure abstraction to images of recent protests to pop art. and beyond.
All works are available for sale online, here, with profits benefiting the artists, the transport barn and LiveGirl.
